Interesting discussion! While in Central Asia, I also learned that kyrgys are also in northern Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and western Mongolia (and probably more like Uzbekistan and China)
It is probably one of those things where people were just living there already, and then somebody started to paint new borders over the place recently (relatively recently,as in last century), not matching the cultures. Unfortunately that happens all time in the whole world.

What I also found interesting is that there is a strong connection between Kyrgystan and Turkey. I believe it is because that this is only because of good and positive relation building directly after fall of Soviet union. And Turkey trying to promote their culture, and helping Kyrgystan.
However, there may be a much deeper/historical thing behind it, that I don't understand? They seem not be related but I could be wrong.

Turkish, Kyrgyz, Kazakh, Uzbek, Turkmen, and Uyghur are all Turkic languages.

Turkey, like Saudi Arabia, has also been funding the construction of mosques in the region as a means of growing their soft power.

Oh yeah, I remember now, it was also the language. Unfortunately we did not spend enough time in Kyrgystan to my liking.
Ah well, a good reason to come back to Central Asia :)

There are some Kyrgyz from the Wakhan living in Turkey, in the town of Ulupamir: https://eurasianet.org/turkey-kyrgyz-no ... -existence

There are also Meskhetian Turks living in Kyrgyzstan, they haven't had an easy time post-independence, like other minorities in Kyrgyzstan: https://eurasianet.org/meskhetian-turks ... c-violence

The World Nomad Games were supposed to be held in Turkey this year, after Erdogan showed up at the last ones in Kyrgyzstan.

Plenty of links beyond that, but a pan-Turkic world like it was dreamt up at different times in recent history is not going to happen anytime soon.

I loved how much the Turks fretted and flexed their muscles over in Kyrgyzstan during the WNG. Bishkek airport was filled with Turkish military planes and so was the small landing strip by the lake... But yet everyone I spoke with was telling me "Yeah yeah Turkey's cool and whatnot... but still we'd rather be like Korea".

Still, I'd rather see Turkey having an influence over the region than Saudi Arabia. The less Wahhabism they inject in that region, the better...
