Toyota RAV4 available to drive from Mongolia to U.K.

Postby TheRav » Fri Jul 21, 2017 11:18 am

Hello everyone,

We have our trusty 1999 Toyota RAV4 that we aim to have in Ulanbataar around middle of August 2017. We were going to drive back through Russia, but now we need to get back to the UK sooner, we wondered if anyone out there wanted to drive it back to the UK for free?

The car is in good condition, only has 110,000 miles on clock and a brand new cam/timing belt. Comes with a roof box, but only 2 front seats. The rear seats we took out and built storage which can turn into a small bed which can be useful. Also have a 3 person tent and double self inflating camping mattress, so all kitted out for camping. We usually get 350 miles to the tank around 100kph, slightly less on motorways in Europe. And drives great off road! There is also some kitesurfing equipment in the roof which if tickles your fancy you are welcome to use!

It would be wonderful if someone wanted to carry on its adventure before returning the car to the dreariness of the M11. No time limit really, as we do have another car in the uk, but ideally before Xmas.

Give me a shout if you are interested, or have any questions, would love to hear from you.

Hi,

unfortunatelly we cannot drive your car back, because we are planning almost the same route as you did.
But we have a question about the Rav 4.
Can we make it through Mongolia on a very bad road, or crossing rivers, big rocks etc...?
We are considering to buy a Rav 4 and we would love to hear your experiences.

Thanks :)

They do most of that stuff in a Prius so a Rav4 will do it with ease. Water crossings in tourist season are usually small so should be okay.

What you can do is buy one of these cheap lift kits for the Rav4 (basically some plates)
Other than that, don"t take too much stuff.

The Rav4 is pretty common in Mongolia, Russia and Central Asia so even if you have an issue you can find parts.
You could consider buying a cheap one from the nineties and.replace the coolant system parts and just go.
