Hi there,

We are two bikers and we just arrived in Baku. We would like to take the boat to Aktau. What are the latest news ? Do some people know when will leave the next boat ?

Thanks for your answer.

Cheers.

Hi,

We are also in Baku now and looking to catch a ferry next week. We are going to ring the Ticket office in Alat tomorrow to see whats the latest update. This seems to be the latest number to them at the Kasse: +994559999124 -this number was given to us by a few hitchikers who took the ferry this week.

Right so number above is correct, there is a ferry tomorrow (its really windy today so assume that can affect it) then an other one in Wednesday/Thursday - these are both the Aktau.

thanks for the reply, we were there today but the ferry was already completely full.
We bought our ticket for the next ferry ( and the place should be reserved, but don't know what to think about that) They said we have to call friday morning for an indication when the ferry will leave.
The number that we got is also the same as the number mention here before, so it's correct.

I was also one of the unlucky ones that couldn't get on the full boat? Anyone got any info on the next boat? Called yesterday and today but just the usual... no boat today.

I'm also thinking of doing this journey in the next few weeks. I was curious - did you already have a ticket for the full boat or did you turn up and try to buy one. Just wondering if its better to try and get a ticket in advance or buy one when we get to the port.

Thanks for the help.

Yesterday we arrived in Kazakstan. Not in Aqtau but in the New port of Kuryk, is 80 km south from aqtau (is still under construction). We didn't know about this connection.
We sailed with the Mercury 1 about 24 hours. ( we think that is shorter than to aqtau). The ship was mainly in use for shipping trains but they told us that they had some space left for 6 cars and a motorbike.

We went on board off the ship on friday evening and left the port of Alat Saturday morning around 9 am. We arrived at Kuryk at sunday morning at 9 am. But we left the port after 5 pm. Because it's a new port they aren't organized yet and they have no structure.

When we bought our ticket in Alat they said there was only a ferry on saturday or sunday, never on friday.
So our advice,
First buy the ticket from the first moment you arrive and stay camping at the ticket office because you never know when there is a boat. Because going to Baku and calling them doesn't work.
You really need to be persistent.

Good luck.
