At least 8 hotels in Almaty deserve to be called very good hotels for business travelers. Saltanat takes the first price: it is an excellent hotel at a very affordable price. InterContinental Almaty delivers as well, but the price tag is considerably higher. Holiday Inn and Best Western are 2 other good options focused on business travelers.
Royal Tulip and Rixos are wonderful luxury hotels that can also accommodate business travelers. Iris and Voyage Hotel are good options in the lower price bracket, without the added extras that some business travelers require.
Quiet, modern, ideally located and with an affordable price tag, the Saltanat is currently the best hotel in Almaty for business travelers. The hotel was fully renovated in 2010 and caters to the C-level set with excellent beds, modern furniture, great wifi and up-to-date tv sets, soundproof windows and lots of plugs in every corner of the room.
Staff is knowledgeable about what business travelers need and consistently gets high marks. Together with the high-quality technical facilities of the hotel, they make the Saltanat one of the best places in Almaty to host business functions and conferences.
Prices start at 160$ per night.
The InterContinental remains the number one choice for many of the city’s frequent visitors. Helpful, well-trained staff, excellent restaurant choices and an acclaimed wellness center give InterContinental the edge over the other 5-star hotels in Almaty for now. Overlooking Almaty’s Republic Square on one side and the Tien Shan Mountains on the other, seeing the sun set from the rooftop terrace is the icing on the cake.
No expense has been spared on the interior at the InterContinental Almaty. Rooms are spacious, and marble bathrooms and silk linens add that extra touch. Built in the 90’s, the hotel is starting to show its age somewhat, and is in need of an upgrade if it wants to maintain pole position. Main gripes are the free wifi, which is average-speed, and the small flat-screen tv.
Where the InterContinental really shines is at the dining table: 3 restaurants serve Asian, French and Turkish specialties, while the Atrium bar offers up spirited cocktails and live jazz performances come evening-time.
The spa area is extensive, featuring an indoor swimming pool, massage rooms and hammam, as well as a large gym and an outdoor tennis court.
Prices range from 350$ to 600$/night.
3. Holiday Inn
This is not a Holiday Inn as you know it in the US or Europe. The Holiday Inn’s guests in Almaty are business travelers, and the hotel eminently suits this type of travel. Located close to the main conference and exhibition halls of the city, good service, a tasty breakfast and clean, comfortable rooms make this a safe bet when traveling to Almaty on business.
Adding to the appeal of the Holiday Inn are its business center, an atmospheric bar and a well-equipped gym. Suites are goodlooking, offering thrilling views of the mountains through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Prices start at 180$ per night.
Located right next to the Atakent exhibition center, this is another good business-oriented hotel. Clean rooms, service-minded, friendly staff with good English and a wide choice at the breakfast table make for a great option for those heading for an exhibition. The location is a bit removed for the center, making it less ideal for those coming for just a holiday.
In terms of conveniences and style it is not on a par with the Holiday Inn, but then again, prices are a bit lower.
Prices start at 160$ per night.
Opulent is the word at the Rixos. Centrally located, it offers all the amenities of a luxury hotel, including an almost spectacular breakfast buffet, a choice of restaurants and a big spa area. The Rixos definitely has that wow-factor when you step into the lobby, and the staff is welcoming, kind and fast.
Rooms have a soft, elegant touch, although some minimalists might call parts of the design bloated and over-the-top. Bathrooms have both a bath and a shower, and all rooms contain a working desk and free average-speed wifi. Like the InterContinental, the spa area is large and beautifully designed with tropical plants surrounding the sauna, steam bath, gym and massage rooms. It only lacks a swimming pool.
It is a great option for those looking to pamper themselves and feel like royalty, without the heavy price tag. Prices start from 220$/room.
The Royal Tulip is big and splendid. It is the type of place where the president’s grandson gets married, with Kanye West as the wedding singer. Rooms are huge, spa facilities are of an opulence hitherto undreamed of in Kazakhstan and hotel staff is excellent all around.
Set on top of the city, near the Medeu skating rink and the Chimbulak ski resort, the Royal Tulip has some of the best views in town. It is an easy 15-minute ride to the downtown area, and guests do not have to suffer the noise and air pollution of the crowded city center.
Relaxation comes in the form of an indoor swimming pool, hammam, saunas and massage service. The hotel has several lounge bars, conference rooms, a ballroom, a night club and a billiard room.
Only minus is the food. The chefs draw their inspiration from their homeland, which means choices are few and far between for vegetarians, and well, for everyone, actually. Better to head across the street to Donatello.
Prices range from 400 to 1000$ per night.
7. Voyage Hotel
This is a very good, stylish hotel with excellent staff and a pleasant mood. On top of this, it is centrally located near the opera and the CBD within walking distance of Panfilov Park and good restaurants. The rooftop café is clean and not overpriced, offering panoramic views over the city.
Rooms are quiet and spacious and furnished in a clean, modern way. Each room has a seating area, a flat-screen tv, a big shower and a balcony. Breakfast is nothing special though, and the free wifi signal occasionally drops. Other than that, one of the best options in Almaty for this price.
Prices start at 160$ per night.
8. Iris Hotel
Iris is a new hotel and is furnished accordingly. The friendly staff is an asset, as is the central location near Republic Square. Offering a good breakfast in the morning, Iris is one of the best options in Almaty for its price. And the free wifi works!
All rooms have air-conditioning, a large flat-screen tv and wifi access. Beds are soft and comfortable. Aside from breakfast, the restaurant staff also turns out great food for lunch and dinner at affordable prices.
Prices start at 130$ per night.
