I love these pictures. I just had to have them on Caravanistan. I think Joe Wang has captured something about Kyrgyzstan that no one has managed to catch on film before. These aren’t horses frolicking on the jailoo in front of a snow-capped mountain. That’s the romanticized soul of Kyrgyzstan. This is the daily-grind, washing-up-when-you’re-tired-after-a-late-dinner-because-traffic-sucked-today soul of Kyrgyzstan.
One day the marshrutkas will disappear from Bishkek, and we will be relieved beyond measure that this transport from hell has finally left our lives. But, we will have lost something as well. Thank you Joe for letting us publish them here!
