Situated on the ground floor of an apartment building dead in the center of Oskemen, this hostel is the best option for backpackers coming to Oskemen, and really anyone who does not mind sharing a room with others.
Immaculately clean, inexpensive and quiet, Ust-Kamenogorsk hostel is as good as it gets. Open since 2015 and kept in perfect condition so far, the hostel offers 3 dorms with 2 or 3 bunk beds. It rarely gets busy, it’s squeaky clean, and an English speaker is on call if there isn’t one manning the desks.
There is attention to detail here and a real effort to please from the staff: even the freeze-dried coffee is the expensive type. 2 other hostels exist in Oskemen; they are dirt-cheap, but rather disgusting, and definitely not an option for single female travelers.
For a few tenge more you get what amounts to one of the best hostels we have encountered in Kazakhstan so far – it’s a no-brainer.
