Central Asia is a hiker’s paradise. The high mountains that made Central Asia famous, those with magical names like Altai, Pamir, Tien Shan and Hindu Kush, are of course the stars of the show. Travel there, and be amazed.
For those who like their scenery less spectacular, and more lovely, there are nature reserves, lakes and protected subalpine forests and meadows dotted around Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan that would take a dedicated hiker years to discover. Not to mention the expansive steppe environment unique to the region.
If you want something a bit more special, little-visited nature reserves in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan can bring you desert wildlife, and wild life.
Expect more here in the coming years. For now this page has to remain a bit of a placeholder, until we hiked it all ourselves.
