This tour is a mix of cultural excursions and wilderness trek with horse-riding over three countries of Central Asia – Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. A challenging journey through an enigmatic region – exciting is an understatement!
- Museum of Antiquities of Dushanbe – rich with a wonderful collection of Buddhist art from the lost cities of ancient Kushan empire, the Greco-Bactrian periods’ with biggest in the world statue of Buddha in Nirvana.
- Travelling along enchanting Pamir Highway with epic landscapes surrounded by snowcapped peaks
- Sightseeing of mystic Wakhan with ancient fortresses, solar calendars, shrines, ancient petroglyphs
- Horse riding and trekking with camping among spectacular landscapes and alpine lakes of Central Pamir: shepherds, yaks and lakes.
- A day trek to the base camp of Peak Engels 6507m and Peak Lenin 7134 with overnights in yurts.
- Sightseeing of most beautiful cultural centres of the ancient Silk Road – Samarkand and Bukhara cities.
Safety: Excellent physical condition is not very imperative for this trip. The altitude ranges from 800m to 4,600m, but we will gain it day by day, so your body will have enough time to adapt to the temperatures and altitude changes. Experience of high altitudes hiking during the trek is essential.
Day 1: Dushanbe. Altitude: 800m↑ Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by your guide transferred to the hotel. Later, city tour includes the visit of the Museum of Antiquities with exhibits primarily from Tajikistan’s pre-Islamic civilizations: the Greek, Bactrian, Buddhist, Hindu, and Zoroastrian periods. The most notable piece in the museum is the largest, fifteen-hundred-year-old reclining Buddha statue. Than you can enjoy strolling around the big Ismoili Somoni Monument – the ancestor of Tajik nation, erected in the Main Square and Rudaki Park in the center of the city as well. Lunch and dinner in traditional restaurants. Evening free time to observe the souvenir shops and pubs of Dushanbe. Overnight in three-star hotel. Meals: L/D

Day 2: Dushanbe – Kalaikhumb 380 km, 6-7 h, Altitude: 1800m↑ Start of the journey to Kalaikhumb via Kulyab. We drive along Panj River by dramatic and enchanting Pamir Highway, very close to Afghanistan. Only the narrow river serves as the border, so you can observe the lifestyle of Afghan people and spectacular views of Pamir highway. Overnight in a guesthouse in Kalaikhumb. Meals: B/L/D.
Day 3: Kalakhumb – Khorog. 260km, 5-6 h, Altitude: 2200m↑
Departure from Kalakhumb. Drive deep among Pamir Mountains. The guests will enjoy the highest cliffs starting directly from the road and drive along the famous Pamir Highway. After 5-6 hours driving, we arrive in Khorog – the centre of Pamirs. Visit of handicraft shop De-Pamiri, short walking to visit Botanical Garden – the second highest in the world. Dinner in open-air restaurant Serena in the side of Gund River. Overnight in hotel in Khorog. Meals: B/L/D.
P.S: if our visit happens on Saturday we have a chance to visit Saturday’s Tajik-Afghan cross-border market in 10km from Khorog.
Day 4: Khorog – Yamchun. 240km – 1 – 2 h, Trek 2 h. Altitude: 3600m↑
The guide and driver pick you up in the morning and start sightseeing of Wakhan. Visit of Garmchashma hot-spring en route, with spectacular open-air pool and minerals. Lunch in Ishkashim. We stop to visit the ruins of ancient fortification Kaahka III-I B.C and observe the canyon and ancient shrine in Darshay. After, we drive to relax in famous hot springs of Bibi Fatima and visit the fort of Yamchun III-I B. C – one of the most important fortifications belonged to Zoroastrian worshippers. Overnight in a guesthouse in Yamchun. B/L/D.
Day 5: Yamchun – Langar. Altitude: 3000m↑
This morning, we drive down and continue the exploration of the mysterious Wakhan. We visit House museum and Solar calendar of Sufi Muborak – a philosopher, poet, theologian, astronomer and musician of XIX century. A calendar created by him was popular in East. We explore the hill with topped ziggurat of Buddhist Stupa IV A.D. one of reminders of the ancient pilgrim caravans that passed through this region following the Silk Road. Overnight in a guesthouse in Langar – the last settlement in tajik side of Wakhan valley. B/L/D.
Day 6: Trek to the meadow of Engels peak. Moderate hiking. Altitude: 4000m
Today we start earlier to start trekking towards one of the most famous peaks of Pamirs – Engels peak 6507m.
We drive 5km down to Zong village and from here start hiking, following the small canal of water, made by locals to irrigate their gardens. Hiking 1000m up, we can observe the ancient petroglyphs of Langar – the message left by Scythians, Arians, Zoroastrians and other inhabitants of these areas, for the next generation. Over 8000 pictograms and rock paintings dated back to bronze and different eras (3200m). En route, possible to see local shepherds, who are happy to share their delicious yoghurt and bread. We stay overnight in tents. B/L/D.

Day 7: Langar – Bulunkul. 110 km, 6h, Walking around 1-2 h. Altitude: 3735m↑
Today our journey takes us over Kargush pass 4344m to Military Camp in Kargush and after formalities drive along Pamir River to Bulunkul valley. We will make a short stop to observe all Wakhan valley from birds fly altitude and carry on driving the serpentines. After, we drive down to visit the most beautiful alpine lake of Pamirs – Yashilkul lake 3719m. Good chance of trying the delicious fish of the lakes. Last preparation for the next 8 days horse riding and trekking. Overnight in a local homestay in Bulunkul. B/L/D.
Horse-riding part with overnights in tents. This route can be done by hiking too. Duration and distances will remain the same.
Day 8: Sumantash – Marhjanoy. Altitude: 3.720 m↑
The drivers will drop you till Suman Tash shepherds camp, where you will be met by your trekking team from Batchor – local guide, cook, horses and horsemen. The drivers will pick you up from Batchor settlement after 10 days. During a horseback tour the group will be self-sufficient. After loading the luggage and short instruction by horse guide, start riding towards the first camping in Marjanoy.
Time: 3 ½ hours. Distance: 14.5 km. Altitude gain: 200m up / 210m down
Day 9: Marhjanoy – Ghund River/Bottom of Langar Pass Valley. Altitude: 3.650 m↑

Day 10: Ghund River/Bottom Langar – Langar Valley/Bottom of Langar Pass. Altitude: 4.200 m↑

Day 16: Rest day / hiking up to Kawk hot springs. Altitude: 4.150 m↑
Time: 2 hours, Distance: 5 km, Altitude gain: 480 m up / 480 m down
Day 17: Andaravj Valley – Batchor. Altitude: 3.400 m↑
Time: 4 hours, Distance: 17 km, Altitude: 130 m up / 480 m down
Day 18: Batchor – Murghab – Karakul.270 km – 5 h. Altitude: 3900m↑ The drivers and guide will meet the group in Batchor and continue the journey to Murghab 3633m – the administrative center of Murghab district. We travel to Pamirs Plato – the roof of the world through picturesque Alichur valley. Murgab is located in a valley at about 3,000 m above sea level and surrounded by high peaks.. Visit of Yak house – souvenir centre in Murghab. After lunch, start the journey to Karakul lake 3,915 m. the lake is too high to support aquatic life. Drive over Ak-Baital Pass (The White Horse Pass 4655m).The highest section of road in the former USSR.. Overnight in homestay in Karakul. B/L/D.
Day 19: Karakul – Sary Mogol. Trek to Lenin basecamp 200 km drive, Trek 3 h. Altitude: 3500m↑. After breakfast, we drive towards Tajikistan -Kyrgyzstan border enjoying the views of Lenin Peak 7,134 m, which dominates over the area. End of Tajik section at Kyzyl Art pass 4,280 m, which forms the border with Tajikistan. Border crossing formalities and drive down to Alay valley. Arriving in Sary Mogol, we turn left and drive up to Tulpar lake 3500m near the Achik Tash base camp in a foot of Lenin peak 7134m. Optional 2-3 hours trek to the foot of Peak Lenin with fantastic view to the peak. Overnight in yurts.
Time: 4 hours, Distance: 12 km, Altitude: 330 m up / 330 m down
Day 20. Tulparkul – Sary Tash – Osh. 300km drive, 4 hours. Altitude: 600m↑We will travel among typical Kyrgyz settlements and pass over Taldik pass 3589m with a great view to Alay valley, than Chiyirchik pass 2402m. Arrive in Osh – the second capital of Kyrgyzstan. Transfer to hotel and after lunch visit of Sulayman Too – the holy mountain of with caves and museum, a place of pilgrimage, which added to UNESCO list of worlds’ heritage. Overnight in hotel in Osh.
Day 21. Osh – Dostuk (Kyrgyz – Uzbek border) – Tashkent. 300km drive, 6-7 hours. Altitude: 455m↑Today, we drive to Dostuk Kyrgyz – Uzbek border. Here we say goodbye to our Tajik team – drivers and guide and pass the border to Uzbek side, where our new guide and drivers will wait for us. We drive to Tashkent. On the route, we can visit Kokand – Norbuta Biy Madrasa, Dahmai Shohon, Khudayar Khan Palace. Continue to drive to Tashkent via Kamchik Pass 2260 m. On Arrival to Tashkent – Accommodation in the Hotel Arien Plaza.
Day 22. Flight – Tashkent – Bukhara. 1.5 hours. Altitude: 220-240m↑We take a morning flight (HY) Tashkent- Bukhara. Arriving in the historical city of Bukhara, we start sightseeing of the city. We visit Labi Haus Place, Kalon Complex, Mausoleum of Samani, Bolo Khaus Mosque, archaeological complex Arc. Overnight in Mekhtar Ambar Hotel.
Day 23. Bukhara – Samarkand 290km drive, 3.5 hours. Altitude: 710m↑Today, we drive to the second ancient city of Central Asia – Samarkand. We visit Registan Square, Shakhi Zinda Necropolis, Gur Emir Mausoleum, Bibi Khanum Mosque.Overnight in Malika Classic hotel.
Day 24. Samarkand – Tashkent 344km drive, 1.5 hours. Altitude: 455 m↑Today, we take a high-speed train to Tashkent. Tour ends with a transfer to airport.
