During this 10-days tour in Kyrgyzstan you will have a great chance to explore the country in depth. You will discover both the northern and southern parts of Kyrgyzstan and follow the footsteps of travellers of the Silk Road using its different branches. You will visit the most beautiful places such as the legendary Issyk Kul lake, with its historical monuments and amazing gorges where you will participate in master class of preparing felt carpets and meet the hunter with eagles to learn about this ancient tradition. Other sights include Tash Rabat caravanserai, ancient Balasagyn town with Turkic stellas and petroglyphs, bustling Osh. Another highlight is a yurt-stay at amazing Song Kol lake at the altitude of 3,016 m where you indulge into nomadic culture and try horse-riding. You will come back to Bishkek city along the highway while gazing out on breathtaking views!
Day 1: Bishkek – Ala Archa – Bishkek
Your guide will pick you up at Manas International Airport and accompany you to the capital city of Kyrgyzstan, just a 30-minute drive from the airport. The first half of the day is dedicated to a guided tour of Bishkek. It includes visiting Pobeda Square (Victory Square), Duboviy Park (Oak Park), Central Ala-Too Square, Old Square, National Philharmonic, and many others places of interest. In the afternoon we will visit Ala Archa gorge. It is a Natural Park. At the Soviet Time only V.I.P. people had permission to go for a walk here. The Ala Archa gorge is on a spur of the Tien Shan mountain range. It is just 45 km from Bishkek. You can have a short hiking tour to see a panoramic view of the gorge. Afterwards we return to Bishkek. This overnight will be in a hotel.
Day 2: Bishkek – Burana – Issyk Kul northern shore – Karakol
In the morning you will be transferred to celestial Issyk Kul Lake, the second largest alpine lake in the world (1608m.above sea level). The lake is called “the pearl of Central Asia”. You can come up to the lake and to see mountains all around it. On route you will visit Burana Tower (an 11th century minaret) and an open air museum of Balbals (stone warriors). Today you will drive along the whole northern shore and arrive to Karakol town. Also we will visit today a place with ancient stone patterns – petroglyphs. Your dinner will be in a local restaurant. Night is in a guesthouse.
Day 3: Karakol – Jeti Oguz – Issyk Kul southern shore – Kochkor
Today we will drive to Jeti Oguz gorge. It’s famous for its red rocks formations that have a name Seven Bulls – Jeti Oguz. Also you will see there the Broken Heart Mountain. If you want it is possible to go on a top of a mountain (20 minutes) to see a panorama view of the gorge. Then we continue our trip, breaking in Bokonbaeva village, where we will meet a local eagle-hunter. He hunts hares and foxes with the help of eagles (a traditional way of nomadic hunting). When we arrive at Kochkor village you will meet a family who will show you how to make national woollen felt carpets. Night is in a home stay.
Day 4: Kochkor – Tash Rabat
After breakfast you will be transferred to the Tash Rabat Caravanserai on the Great Silk Road (Stone Castle from the 14th century). The building is unique. Tash Rabat is located at the very heart of Tian Shan Mountains. Tash Rabat was built of stone blocks inside a mountain at an elevation of 3200 m above sea level. In total there are 31 rooms in the mountain. The walls are 1 m thick. There are also underground prison cells formerly used to incarcerate thieves in ancient times. The night will be spent in yurts near Tash Rabat Caravanserai.
Day 5: Tash Rabat – Kalmak Ashu pass – Song Kol
After breakfast we start our drive to the second largest lake in Kyrgyzstan – Song Kol Lake. The road to the lake goes through Kalmak Ashu pass (3 446 m). This lake is surrounded by mountains and it is the highest alpine lake in Kyrgyzstan, situated at an altitude of 3013 meters above sea level. Kyrgyz nomads started to come to this wonderful area with their families for rest and relaxation. Herders of the Naryn region come to the lake to use it as a pastureland. After our arrival, you will be free to explore and enjoy the virgin nature of the lake and its surroundings. It is possible to ride horses at Son Kul lake for 2-3 hours. But it depends on the availability of horses at that moment. Overnight is in nomadic collapsible dwellings – yurts. They are made of a wooden skeleton, covered with felt coverings.
Day 6: Song Kol – Kazarman
Today we will drive to Kazarman village. 93% of Kyrgyzstan is mountainous with nomadic life in remote places – our country is a real paradise for people that are in love with mountains and unusual cultures. The route takes you along roads that wind along incredible gorges. During your drive be prepared for amazing views of the impressive mountains and gorges. Today we will see some nomads that still live in this region. Night will be in a home stay. This is a very remote village.
Day 7: Kazarman – Osh
In the morning we will drive to Osh city. The journey takes about six hours and again you will drive along a mountain road. On the way we will visit Djalal Abad town and its famous Uzgen Tower. This tower was built in 11th century by Karakhanids. There are also mausoleums that were used as burial chambers for the leaders. The whole road will surprise you with its celestial mountains and excellent panoramic views. We will make many photo stops to remember this tour for a long time. In Osh city you will go for a walk there and visit the most famous place – Suleiman Mountain. Suleiman Too (Solomon’s Mountain) is situated in the center of the city and it is considered to be a pilgrimage place for local Muslims. According to the legend, biblical prophet Solomon (Suleiman in the Koran) was buried at the foot of it. This night you will spend in a hotel.
Day 8: Osh – Toktogul
In the morning we will drive to the calming setting nearby the Toktogul reservoir. During your transfer we will travel along astounding mountain gorges where it is possible to meet nomadic families. Many nomads still live in felt dwellings called yurts. In summertime it’s very pleasant to live in them and in the winter they are surprisingly warm. Nomads go to high mountains during the summer to breed their cattle. The Kyrgyz nomads are very hospitable and if we meet them we’ll be able to communicate with them. Night is in a guesthouse.
Day 9: Toktogul – Bishkek
After breakfast we will drive to the capital of Kyrgyzstan – Bishkek city. The road to the city goes through the southern part of Kyrgyzstan. During your transfer be prepared for amazing views of impressive mountains and gorges. Today you will see panoramic views of Tue Ashuu pass which is more than 3000 meters high! This road is considered to be one of the most beautiful in Kyrgyzstan. You will have many photo stops so that you will remember this day. Fantastic roads, amazing views, nomads, high mountains; ensure your memories of Kyrgyzstan will last a lifetime. Night is in a hotel.
