This trip through Kyrgyzstan “A mountain oasis on the mythic silk road” is meant to show foreign tourists the actual life of Kyrgyz people and the cultural heritage of these descendants from Manas the generous, and comrades in arms of Genghis Khan and Tamerlane.
During this trip you will fully appreciate the disappearing way of life of Kyrgyz nomads, living among yurts and flocks. We propose you a timeless travel From the Issyk-Kul lake banks to the wild valleys of the Celestial Mountains (Tian Shan), culminating at 7000m. All the way through this nice adventure we will encounter very few tourists and we will stay close to nature and to Kyrgyz nomads.
This tour is organized in a fair and united spirit.
Day 1 Flight to Bishkek
Day 2 Arrival early in the morning at Manas Airport, meeting with the guide and driver. Road to Bishkek (40 km), settlement and rest at the hotel. Breakfast in the hotel, tour across Bishkek, and visit of the city’s monuments and oriental markets (bazaar). Night in a hotel.
Day 3 Departure to Chong-Kemin Valley. On the way, visit of Burana tower from the Karakhanids’ period (10th century). Arrival and picnic in Karool Dobo. Horseback ride around Karool Dobo in the afternoon. Diner and overnight at home stay in Karool Dobo.
Day 4 Departure to Issyk-Köl lake (1,600m). Picnic on the lake banks. Departure to Bokonbaeva and Boz Salkyne summer pasture (jailoo). First insights into nomads’ life. Night in a yurt.
Day 5 Short hike to reach the splendid view on Issyk-Köl lake and the entire valley. Lunch and departure to Kochkor following the Silk Road. Show with a hunter and his eagle in Bokonbaeva. Arrival in Kochkor and overnight at home stay.
Day 6 Transfer to Isakeev and departure of the horseback riding trip to Tez-Tör summer pasture (jailoo) and lake Köl-Ükök. Picnic, relaxation, discovery of high mountains’ fauna and flora, and new approach of nomads’ life. Night in a yurt.
Day 7 Tez-Tör. Recreation day. You can share the daily life of nomads in their environment. Possibility to hike to Köl-Tör lake, to fish with nomads and ride horse. Night in a yurt.
Day 8 Tez-Tör – Kochkor. Recreation morning in the unique ambiance of nomads’ camp. Horseback riding way back to Isakeev with a picnic on the way. Transfer to Kochkor. Visit of the local handicraft shops. Departure to Naryn. Way through Dolon pass (3,035m). Diner and overnight at home stay.
Day 9 Departure to At-Bashy valley and Kamandy high pasture (jailoo) through Ak-Muz. Short hike and lunch with the nomads in a scenic landscape. Discovery of nomads’ life. Night under a tent.
Day 10 Morning hike to reach the panorama on the valley. Departure to Acha-Kajyndy village and way through Bash-Kajyndy village. Overnight at home stay.
Day 11 Departure to Tash Rabat caravanserai. . On the way, stop in At-Bashi village where one of the most important livestock market is occurring every Sunday. Tash-Rabat (the rock house) is the most important silk-road monument in Kyrgyzstan. Dated from 11th century and restored in the eighties, this historical building is described as the one of the best preserved monument of the silk-road with an especially well preserved atmosphere. Diner and night in a yurt. Possibility to enjoy the local sauna (bania).
Day 12 Tash-Rabat – Naryn. Free morning. Visit of the caravanserai dated from the 10thcentury and which has been a Nestorian monastery and probably a Buddhist temple too. Hiking or horseback riding in the majestic landscapes of this magical place above 3,500m, among horse herds. Transfer to Naryn in the evening. Diner and overnight at home stay.
Day 13 Departure to Song-Köl lake (130km, 3h). Magnificent way up on a meandering road with no less than 32 switchbacks (locally named the 32 parrots). Song-Köl lake (3013m) is absolutely unique and is one of the most picturesque places in Kyrgyzstan. Surrounded with rich pastures, this place allows hiking and horseback riding as well as bathing and swimming for the bravest! Night in a yurt.
Day 14 Day in Song-Köl lake. Possibility of horseback riding or hiking. Meeting with nomads. Cow and mare milking. You can participate to the homemade preparation of cream (kajmak) and fermented mare milk (kymyz). Tasting of the kymyz. Possibility to organize horse games. Night in a yurt.
Day 15 Departure to Kysyl-Oj. Way through Kalmak Achuu pass. Arrival in the afternoon. Overnight at home stay.
Day 16 Departure to Bishkek following the magnificent Suusamyr valley. Way through Töö-Ashuu pass (3,586m) and arrival in Bishkek. Last shopping. Farewell diner. Night in a hotel.
Day 17 Departure to the airport and return flight.
