The Art Gallery of Uzbekistan hosts a very good collection of Uzbek painters pre- and post-independence. The collection has seriously grown in scope and size since the death of Islam Karimov, with more interesting work now also on display, besides the paintings of melons and landscapes.
An added attraction is a superb coin collection. It contains a piece of almost all coins ever to be found in Uzbekistan, across historical eras. Indian, Chinese, Greek, Kushan and Roman coins are on display besides Mongol, Persian and Timurid issues from medieval times.
