How many cigarettes can you take into Turkmenistan?

Post by steven »

We are confused. RFE/RL puts the number at 2 cartons or 400 cigarettes, while we got 1 traveler report saying instead: 2 packs / 40 cigarettes.

Let us know if you are at the border and get an answer from someone reliable-looking. Thank you!

Since I'm the source of confusion, let me explain where my info comes from :)

The person who told me about the newest restrictions (2 packs/ 40 cigarettes) is a Turkmen smoker who travels for business every month. She said that in the last two years the allowed amount has been reduced from 2 cartons to what is now 2 packets.

Of course, doesn't hurt to double check on the border!

Thank you very much, hitchhaning! Will still wait for 1 more person to confirm before I add it to the website.

You can take only 2 packs (40 cigarettes). I asked on the border.
Anyway, nobody check how many do I have.
In Garabogaz you can sell a pack around 30-40 manats, in Asghabat around 25-30 manats.
