Re: Three Weeks in the Wakhan Corridor

When we were in Wakhan, we just were at the end of Ramadan (last 2 days) and it was only felt in Ishkashim, but nothing serious (shops were open), just a majority was following the rules and people were disrespecting those who were flushing the throat with water (spitting it out again). As for food,...

Re: Itinerary for the Fann Mountains

And check the description for each pass and try to anticipate the conditions. We went over Kaznok at the begining of september and it was ok (but it is very steep for a trekking pass), but you can have ice (in any case you have ice, as you go on the glacier, the critical stretch is therefore the ste...

Re: Tajikistan to Pakistan (Islamabad)

Sorry, your planing seems contradictory. How would you cross China to enter Pakistan without a Chinese visa? Because you write, that you apply in Islamabad for the Chinese visa.

Re: dual citizen - change of passoport between crossings

Depends really on country and border guards. It is better to have everything on one passport, especially if it is visa related. Some years ago coming from Algeria I was refused entry on one of my passports in Tunesia, they told me I must have fallen out of the sky. That was no problem as with the ot...

Re: Cycling - Kashgar to Tehran

I would shift a bit, we were cycling last year in Iran in May and it was fine, I think April will also be ok for going into the Caucasus, but before it is winter. A lot of cyclists stay the winter in Iran and Oman, that's what I would do. In 2013 we cycled also from China to Turkey, but already in O...

Re: Dushanbe->Wakhan valley->Osh (from August 4th): trekking, ridesharing, travel buddy

The road over mats path was formerly done by jeeps. We did it in 2010 on bicycles and had to push a lot as the road is gone now. So walking will be no problem, you must cross the river at least once, we did it twice and the water was high (depends on weather). We came out on the other site than you ...

Not sure about your lakes, especially Sasykkul and Chukur Kul, if they are not too salty. I would take a lot of water from the strem on the Khargush side until you catch up the Pamir Hwy. There is no food resuply between Langar and Alichur/Bulunkul besides if you ask herders or the soldiers (so woul...

Re: medication in turkmenistan

We had problems when leaving Turkmenistan and were held 3 hours at the customs (Turkmenbashi), as we had some painkiller, that was on their list (Tramadol). We had a certificate from our doctor, but that did not help. So I would say it depends on the medication.
