Hi! I'm going to be in Kazakhstan in mid june and I was thinking of trying to reach Altai and be there for a couple weeks, but for what I'm reading here, that is going to be difficult without my own vehicle. My idea was to go to Poperechnoe and/or Katon Karagay via shared taxi from Oskemen and do some hiking around those areas. So my questions are:
1 - Does that sound reasonable/doable or am I going to miss the good stuff without a car?
2 - Are 2 weeks enough or is that too tight?
3 - Would it be possible to arrange my stays on the spot or do I need to book things in advance?
I'm aware that any trip to that region includes certain amount of uncertainty and adventure. I'm an experienced hiker with my own gear and I'm fluent in russian, if that's relevant. Thanks in advance for any info or opinions on this!
Hey guys,
I need an advice. I would like to go to the Kazakh Altai for which visit I think I need a permit. Where can I get this permit? Do you know...
