Taking cash in/out Uzbekistan on a day trip

Hi all,
When I am in Tashkent I will do a day trip to Khujand. I read that I am supposed to always declare the money/items of value and not leave with more that you come with – as per the entry paper.
Therefore I assume I have to carry everything with me to Khujand. Ideally Id like to leave most of my cash in the hotel safe and only take what I need.
Is there any other solution to this?

This is old information. There is no cash declaration anymore at Uzbek borders.

When I crossed Khujand to Tashkent about a week ago therebwas a sign saying that if you bring in more than 2000 USD you need to declare. Not sure if they check if you leave
