Best rate achieved (two weeks ago) was 84.000 at a shop near the bazar in Samarkand. Otherwise between 80.000 and 82.000 in different cities first weeks in June.

Quick question for planning how much USD to exchange, what can you actually use Uzbek Sum to pay for?

I understand that all hotels now only accept USD. Is this correct? What does that leave for you to be able to take advantage of the black market rates on? trains? restaurants? entrance fees? tours?

So is it correct you need to pay accommodation in US$ or at the official rate - darn - that's going to blow the budget

Hi, I know that this question has been asked but it hasn't been properly answered imo.
If you come from a euro country is it still cheaper to change euros to dollars first and then from dollars to sum or just change straight from euros to sum. At least if you use the latter method you would only be making one transaction which might offset the worse exchange rate from changing euros in the bazaar instead of dollars.

Thanks

As I wrote on the Uzbek money page, it is best to exchange in USD. Here is the calculation. Unless the euro drops against the dollar, this remains true.

Currently, 100 euro = 117$.

117$ = 959400 sum
100 euro = 820000 sum

Unless you get a really bad deal on your euro/USD exchange, it makes sense to exchange twice.
