Fann Mountains - food?

Post by wombad »

Hey there, I'll be hiking the Fanns sometime next week (15-20?), probably one way (alaudin to artuch) or loop (artuch - artuch) through the lower lakes for 3-4 days (kulikalon - alaudin). In good shape. DM if you might want to tag along (for fun and for easier logistics). Got all the equipment except for cooking stuff. Where can one get food? Artuch? Kulikalon? Vertical Alaudin? Thanks!

The camp at Alauddin lake served some food, and there is also the mountain hut above Artuch.
Otherwise yes you should bring food (large Auchan supermarket in Duchanbe) and a small camping stove is very useful.

Thanks a lot! you mean at the vertical alauddin or at the lake itself? I assume from panjakent I can also get decent supplies? (won't be coming from dushanbe, but from samarkand)

It was some years ago and there was a campsite/restaurant run by a local near Alauddin lake.
Yes Penjikent has stores and a market but you won't find the same choice as in Dushanbe (gas cartridges !).

I hiked there 1 week ago -
there is a "teahouse" with food + acommodation in a dorm tent at the north shore of lake Alauddin as well as two of them at Bibijonat lake (north + west side).

That's super helpful, thanks a lot. So I can rely on them to have my main meals, right?

yes, they generally have tea, bread, yoghurt, eggs, a main course (shashlik, or plov, or chorba soup), and sometimes tomato-cucumber salad and/or watermelon and/or bier refrigerated in the lake

at Mutnoe lake, there is sometimes a basecamp, but it is private, just for one group of alpinists who rented a tour and a guide. They would feed you "in case of emergency", but they are not there for this purpose. I did not go to Bolshoy Allo, I guess it is the same.
