I'm travelling through Iran in March, planning to get some visas in Tehran for China and other central asian countries, but wondered the extent to which embassies and consulates will be closed over the Persian New Year? Any advice appreciated.

Hi Renee,
I checked some different embassy websites. I only found the Swiss holidays: 22-23-24 March. You can assume lazier nations (not naming names) will also take the preceding Sunday and Monday off.
