Ishkashim border crossing (and market): open or closed?

I am planning a trip to the Afghan Wakhan for this summer, and so have been in touch with a couple of guides on the Afghan side. They both report that the border crossing is open.

Great news ! Can you get a visa at that border ? Did the safety situation somehow degrade this last year ?

How about border market in Iskashim , is it still operated ?

I'm yet to make it there (we'll be there in a few days). But I'm told by several other travellers that have been through recently that the market stopped 3 years ago!

Market is no more due to attack from Taliban in the market (confirmed by TAJIK guard that catch me taking foto to other side of the river, they only warn dont take photo and please delete because "someone" from other side probably dont like it )

If yes, is it possible to go to the other side of the river (afghan side where the market used to be) without visas? Thans for answer.

Does anybody know the current situation at the border? People say it's closed but also that it's open. All because the president visits the Pamir region in Murghab and Khorog...
I'm not talking about the market but really about the border itself

Has anyone got any recent information about the border market and the possibility of crossing into the Afghan side of town on a Tajik visa? Most recent information I can find is from around a year back so I was wondering whether there have been any developments recently?

Still closed. You could never cross over to Afghan Ishkashim without an Afghan visa; only the market.
