Border confirmed closed as of 17th October 2022.

Сrossing of the state border "Ingur" is temporarily limited. Therefore, there is no possibility to cross it.
At the moment we do not accept any applications.

The border may or may not be closed for locals, but is certainly closed for tourists. The lookout is generally bad, the situation in Abkhazia has been deteriorating quite a bit in the past years. There are now power outages for multiple hours a day due to uncontrolled cryptocurrency mining(!). Energy in Abkhazia is provided by one single hydroelectric power plant which cannot cope with the increased energy consumption.

Last info (yesterday, MFA Abkhazia) "Сrossing of the state border "Ingur" is temporarily limited. Therefore, there is no possibility to cross it.
At the moment we do not accept any application"

Feedback received from MFA by email on 28/02/2023, based on my question if the Inguri border was open:

“Good day, yes, the Ingur border start to work, send the application form with the copy of Your passport.”

Nonetheless, my application got rejected without any reason given. I believe it may be nationality related but I never got any further feedback.

I'm also planing to visit Abchasia; few years ago I got all my papers ready but I missed the time to go there.

Which money is in Abchasie? Only Rubel, or they do have own money?
