Naryn - Kashgar via Torugart pass in October

Is the road, border or area open and accessible to foreigners? Is there danger?

Naryn - Kashgar via Torugart pass in October

Post by KevinLi »

Hi Everybody :) ,

my girlfriend and I are currently in Bishkek and are heading to China next (in about one week). We are thinking about either going up to Almaty and from there to Urumqi or taking the Torugart pass from Naryn to Kashgar.

Question: Is it possible at all to cross the Torugart pass? Or will it be too snowy and therefore to risky? We are not in the mood for waiting multiple days if the border closes due to snow etc.

Thank you very much in advance!

Well, you need a tour guide to do the Torugart pass in any circumstance, so you might as well get in touch with one and ask them what they think. I'd expect that it's normally not a problem, but it's also true that blizzards, however rare, can roll in at any time.
